Round the world flight - STA Travel

Hi folks sorry if this is a bit vague but don't have anyone with travelling experience to talk to about this one I'm afraid (though I've posted this same query on the lonely planet forums).
So after thinking about it for two years I'm finally going to book a solo round the world ticket with STA sometime this week and just wanted people's opinions.
I've only got three months (the whole of January, February and March 09) and I want to go to Southeast Asia and South America (stopping off in Auckland and Sydney in between). STA quote me a price of £1600 for this not including taxes and fuel surcharges, is this a decent price (bearing in mind unfortunately I'm now over the age of 26 and no longer a student)? Also, in todays financial climate should an airline or several go bust would STA be able to get me another flight and would this come at extra cost to myself?
London - Bangkok - Denpasar - Auckland - Lima - Sao Paulo -London (includes stopovers in Syndey, Buenos Aires and Panama City)
Please please please feel free to offer your comments and any feedback

On first glance i think it is expensive if it does not include taxes yet. I guess it may be the fact that you are having South America on the latter stages.
I think that you will find with the ticket that you will be on one of the major carriers, likely to be the Star Allience group of airlines so they should be pretty safe. Book on your credit card though, just to be safe.
Will have a look around for you though, what date are you departing London?

Thanks for that, i thought it may be expensive bearing in mind the most expensive option they advertise on their website is from £999. :j The earliest day I can leave is on Saturday Jan 3rd. Thanks again.0

Qantas fly SYDney to BUEnos Aires direct.
Lan Chile fly SYDney-AucKLand-Santiago de ChiLe.
I'd add in Rio De Janeiro as part of the trip. BA fly RIO-LHR direct.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Hi
If you have a search in these forums for RTW i think there are quite a few helpful threads.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep
& Choo Choo for trains!!0 -
Anything including south or central America seriously increases the price of any round the world.0

You will also find that departures before the 15th Jan will be more expensive in general as you are still feeling the effects of the Chrismas and NY prices. Is there anyway you can put it off for a few weeks and start your leave slightly later? Failing that you could look at the possibility of taking a more regular RTW with a flight in to LAX on it and look at booking something flying from there to where you want to go in South America.
Maybe LHR - BKK- DPS - SYD - LAX - LHR.
Then book a South American package seperate from out of LA!
