I have a 32" Phillips flat screen TV purchased Dec 2002 that has started to go wrong. The screen is blurring around the edges (no I don't need glasses ;->) and seem to be getting worse.
I've checked the connections, the sky box and the other TV's in the house seem to be working fine. Contacted COMET, where I purchased the TV, and they want £59 to send an engineer out as the TV is out of warranty.
Do I use COMET or try someone else ? Your help is much appreciated.

I would get someone local, who doesn,t charge a call-out fee. They should be able to tell you the fault and a price for repair.
I wouldn't get the likes of comet/Currys to come out.0 -
Have you got any external speakers next to the Tv as that can distort the Tv picture.
Get a quote from Domestic and General for a 1year warranty, then if you get it wait a week or two, then phone them back and tell them you have a fault on your Tv.0 -
Find your local Philips repair agent & ask if this is a known fault, with your model.
THEN, before getting it fixed, you'll have an ide of if it's worth doing - prices will be about a third of what you paid for it - contact Philips, saying how surprised you aree that it's gone wrong so soon.
See if they'll give an allowance towards another - worth a try!!

I do have external speakers but moving them didn't change anything. Got a quote from D & G whicj was £100+.
Will contact Philips and a local repair man.

Computer monitors have a "degauss" button or option in a screen setup menu. I'm not sure of the technical ins-and-outs of what it does, but think that it resets the magnetic fields in the CRT. Some newer TVs automatically degauss when you switch them on, but it may be worthwhile checking your TV manuals (if you still have them) to see if you can manually degauss your set.0
