@ key has moved??

Options
Hi,

I have just changed my hard drive on my pc and installed Windows (98se).

The @ key and the " key have swapped with each other. I've checked the regional setting and I'm on English - UK.

I think I had a similar problem when I changed the drive last time but can't remeber how to change the keys back

Any advice - very welcome

many thanks

stick a small knife under the 2 key and pop it off the keyboard, repeat for at symbol and swap.
Not perfect but it works for me

You may find that because it is W98SE you are using the instructions are a little different. In control panel, Date/Time and Regional Settings are seperate. There is also a keyboard selection.

Make sure that Regional settings is on English (UK)

Also make sure that under Keyboard (then language tab at the top). It is set for English (british). If it is not, click add, then select this option, then click apply>OK. Then delete the original (probably english (US) entry).

Follow the instructions in post 5, but make sure you delete the keyboard type already entered after you create the new one. :)

It's also worth checking that the Num Lk key hasn't accidently been turned off.

    Good luck

It looks like not only has the @ and the " key been swapped but so have half these threads!! LOL

My other half bought a new fancy keyboard and it must be American format as there is no £ sign on the keys and " and @ are the wrong way round?? Anyhow, I am used to typing without looking at the keys so i am using it completely the wrong way round as I have it set up as English format so that SHIFT + 2 gives me a " sign not a @ like it says on the keys!! This is fine for me but anyone else who tries to use the keyboard sometimes has a bit of grief - ha ha!!

Did you solve your problem OP?? If not, what does it say above your numbers on the 1 2 3 and 4 keys?? On mine it says ! @ # and $ but what it actually types is ! " £ and $

Also check out the keyboard settings and regional settings in the Control Panel :D

thanks all sorted. I had to load the english keyboard file.

Look like it had changed when I installed the new drive.

I run on Win98se and the file is on the install cd (.kbd file)
