It may be prudent to inform peoples that Part P does not apply to Scotland (and never will).

Part P brought domestic electrical work within the Building Regulations in England and Wales in Jan 2004, Electrical work (domestic & non-domestic) has been within control of the building regs in Scotland for a few decades now.

The regs are a little different up here- most work in a house doesn't need permission, with some exclusions, but almost ALL electrical non-maintenance work in flats, maisonettes will need approval.

A couple of things to remember- the regs are more oneouous in Scotland, so DIY may not be the best option (the council require a test certificate and the test equipment costs >£700), and they may ask you to get it tested - at your cost.

Also the home information packs that have been ditched in England And Wales are still going ahead in Scotland- so if you have been naughty you are more likely to be found out when you sell.
