browsing the net with the sony psp and running older games!!!

HI folks,

I'm on broadband and have just bought a sony psp. I understand you can browse the web with it, has anyone done so and is it any good, considering the screen is small?

I would probably need a wireless router as all I've got at the moment is a bt modem.

Also I see a few auctions on ebay for the know how to downgrade the psp firmware so that older sega and nitendo games can be played. My psp firmware is version 2.5. Has anyone downgraded successfully from this version and many risks involved?

Suggestions and ideas appreciated from anyone whos gone online with the psp or running older games

It is currently not possible to downgrade from any firmware above version 2, so no retro for you at the moment at least. Most UK retail is at 2.01, figures. Also, never pay for information like this as doing a quick search on google would tell you all about it. psp-hacks have a whole load of info.

I have a netgear adsl router and have used the psp to browse the Internet. It's not great but is perfectly useable. Basically you get a mouse cursor on the screen and use the directional buttons to scroll down the page and to highlight a select text boxes etc. Then up pops an on screen keyboard, rather like a virtual phone style with three letters to each key.

If you are thinking of getting wireless just for your psp, I don't think you would find it worth the effort or money involved.

It's worth bearing in mind that the webbrowsing functionality of the PSP was added in firmware 2.0. If you did successfully downgrade from 2.5 to 1.5 (in order to run 'unofficial' code on the PSP - such as games emulators) you would lose the built-in webbrowser of the PSP.
