£10,000 excess for Courtesy Car?
Hi
The delivery date on our new car has been delayed, the dealer offered us a courtesy car untill the new car arrives but the excess on the insurance policy was £10,000 is this normal?
We ended up insuring it on temp basis via our car insurance company for £20
Thanks
Jim

I always though you could pay extra for a Super Collision Damage Waiver so you dont have to pay the excess shoudl the worst happen! If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0

Don't know if it's normal but it sounds terrible. What manufacturer was this and name the dealership. Write a letter to the manufacturer (not the dealer).0

It was Citoren as the manufacturer and Bristol Street Motors (in Nottingham) as the dealer, the guy that delivered the curtesy car today said that the excess was more than the car was worth!!! think I will write a letter to the manufactorer, thanks

Are you sure the excess applied to you and not to the dealer?0

Collision Damage Waiver and Excess are two separate things.
You pay CDW to cover you if you cause damage to the rental vehicle. When you pick up the vehicle you have to make a downpayment of excess charges for the CDW. You can pay another premium to cover against that.
It cost us £17.95 for CDW on a seven seater and £14.95 to waive the £500 excess. My boss (who was the driver) was rather chuffed at this, as he pranged the vehicle causing rather a lot of damage. It didn't cost us a penny more than we had paid up front and as the base rental price had been so low, we still felt we had paid a fair price for the rental.
That said, we too arranged cover through our own insurers for a courtesy car while ours were being serviced. Ours however came free of charge.0 -
They didnt offer collision damage waiver (so dont know if that was available)
but yes the excess was to be paid by us if we crashed (even if it wasnt our fault), had the car nicked or even if someone scratched the paintwork
