Credit card cheques

I recently recieved some PURCHASE RATE credit card cheques. (Note, not the EVIL cash rate balance transfer ones). They were for Captial One with whom i recieve 1% cashback.
I decided to give them a ring to check whether i would recieve cashback on the cheques. Obviously a good deal for me as i can get a months worth of interest per cheque if i write them to myself and pay them into my savings account.
When i rang, (i didn't tell them my cunning plan!) they said that the cheques would not recieve the cashback (fair enough i suppose), and that they have changed all the cheques they have issued to cash rate cheques!
I don't think that they can do this as they have not informed me, but i do not want to try it now as the interest on a cash withdrawal would outweigh any interest i could get from the cash.
Has anyone else come across this, or successfully stoozed money in this way?

MBNA keep sending these cheques to me. I promptly shred them. Come to think of it, I haven't used their card for 2 years now and I must remember to cancel it.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0
