Help needed:free AV for Windows 98SE or advice on AVG7.5 problem

Hello, can anyone advise on a good free anti virus product for Win98SE? Im currently using grisoft AVG 7.5 but for the last few months it has not detected ANY threats/problems apart from always coming up with a change to the shell32.dll file (?) which it doesnt categorise as a problem. Im suspicious as i scan my pc a few times a week and up until a few months ago it would usually pick up 1-2 threats per scan but now nothing! Ive seen a few posts on here for AVAST but that doesnt appear to be something i can use for Win98. Any suggestions? Last resort will be to buy a new PC and OS but as i only use it for basic internet stuff id prefer to see if i can continue using what ive got.
Thanks for the advice everyone!

I believe Avast Home Edition supports Windows 98:

(according to their system requirements anyway)0 -
Yup, Avast works with Win98, I have it here on a spare PC.
Also Free Superantispyware and Spybot, both work fine.Move along, nothing to see.0 -

Same here. Also suggest Spywareblaster for additional protection.Charlie0 -
hello again, ive downloaded avast 4.8 home edition, installed and entered license key. However iAVS update has problems, it downloads all the packages and stuff but right at the end i get a "not enough storage..." error popup. Ive got at least 1gb of disk space and 280 mb of memory installed (running win 98 plus). Any suggestions anyone?thanks

Do you get this message after doing a scan?0

Try a disk cleanup, and get rid of all temporary files?
Try the Avast forums:

thanks all, i uninstalled and reinstalled it a few times and deleted all temp files each time but it still had the same problem. In the end i downloaded the offline update and applied it, that sorted it and it is now runnning OK. Should all the AV and antispyware apps mentioend in this thread be able to run together (Avast, Superantipspyware and spybot)?thanks

You do need to uninstall ALL other AV programs on your computer first, you can only have one running at once. Avast has an excellent user forum at http://forum.avast.com/ where I am sure they will help with your problem. Use Avast Home here on both my XP and 98SE machines and works well.0

Superantispyware, Spybot and Spywareblaster are not anti-virus programs, so you can have them as well as Avast.Charlie0
