Barclaycard 2% cash back for supermarket/fuel spend

At the end of October 08 I received a leaflet from Barclaycard saying I would get a 2% cashback for any supermarket spend or fuel spend in November 2008 (I think) up to £1000, Anyway, I checked my November statement today and it's only got the standard 1% cashback up to £200.

Did anyone also get this leaflet and did I miss something out or misread it? It used to be a Morgan Stanley card account before Goldfish took it over (and the Barclays)...

I phoned them up and told them to cancel as I dont need the card and they give me 2% back on all spending for 6 months paid monthly.

    Been milking it ever since!

That offer has been around for some thime (I have it) you get 2% on fuel & supermarkets, 1/2% everywhere else. There are a number of mixtures of this offer, I have seen the 1% one online last month.

Call them up and ask what is going on....

However on your statement the cashback get shown as 1/2% all spend then 1 1/2% for the fuel and supermarket seperately.

Or call up and threaten to leave, I got £25 two months running when I did that!
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!

There was a mailshot, i received the same thing as an ex Goldfish customer.

2% for fuel and supermarket shopping.

I rarely use the card and the offer wasn't as good as the Nationwide spend £400 and get a 3 month 1/2 price cinema pass.

Car insurance was due anyway so that took care of that.

  • I used to have a Morgan Stanlet card. Yes, I got the 2% supermarket-and-fuel cashback letter before Christmas. My next statement showed 1% cashback. I emailed, and was told it would be sorted next statement. Then I got another 2% cashback letter for a further period. Next statement - guess what! Yes, just 1%. Emailed again, to be told my rate was 1%, and that for only the first £200/month. Emailed again, with scans of the 2 letters. Got an acknowledgement and a promise to look into it. Nothing since. At best, its bungling incompetence. At worst? Can't say - the moderator would have a fit. I like the advice to phone and threaten to leave - I'll do that tomorrow

The supermarket/fuel cashback appeared on my statement as a separate entry - a few days before the statement date when the normal cashback was added.

was wondering about this too- I just got a Barclaycard as replacement for Goldfish/Morgan Stanley card. Paid for my annual travel card online with it (just under £1000) and statement shows 2% card back which is a nice surprise.

So not just for fuel and supermarkets then? I dont remember any mail shot..

I also have a Barclaycard Cashback card which replaced my Morgan Stanley/Goldfish card.
I got a letter last October saying that if I spend more than £300 before the end of 2008, then I will receive 1% cashback on all purchases up to a limit of £15.
The extra cashback would be paid as part of my Feb 2009 statement.
No mention of 2% cash back for fuel/supermarkets though.
Looks like they've been sending different promotions to different people.

I was promised 2% on my Barclaycard expenditure up to the 9 January 2009. I used the online contact form to ask why I had not got the correct rate (it was much lower). they responded that the rate had been calculated correctly. Then when I sent them my calculations, they credited the account with the difference between what they had already paid and 1% of up to £200 expenditure and 0.5% afterwards. When I queried the whole 2% thing they said they 'had no record' of sending me any such letter and asked me to send them a copy. Unfortunately, I lost it. I am just going to walk. If I cannot trust them to be honest, then what hope is there?
