Argos taken money but item is still out of stock - Is this normal?

I ordered a table tennis table from Argos on 22nd October, they took the money from my credit card the next day, and I was told the item would be with me within 3 weeks. I had not heard anything from them, so emailed them at the start of the week and was told that due to the high demand, they were out of stock and they would let me know by Dec 7th when to expect delivery. This has really annoyed me because they didn't bother to let me know, they can't guarantee when the new stock will arrive, but mostly that they took the £150 from me back in October, which I have obviously been charged for. It will be then be 7 weeks from my order date. Is this the normal procedure for Argos, or should they have held off taking the money? Would appreciate any advice before I phone tomorrow to give them a piece of my mind!

    Hi

It is rare that this happens, but you should be able to cancel your order if you have not yet received delivery. Ring the delivery line and just (politely!) ask for an update on the status.

    Hope this helps!

But I would be more angry that I ordered something well in advance for xmas and still not recieved it. If its a gift for xmas she may not want to cancel it as she may not be able to get another one with such short notice from elsewhere else. The fact that they have taken the money would assure me that I would be getting a delivery when stated. She was told item would be delivered in 3 weeks so should therefore have her item delivered and if not then a courtesy call from Argos to apologise and explain the problem would have meant that she would have had more time to look around and order elsewhere. As you have been given 7th December as a info date I would wait til then and if you dont hear from them by 4pm I would call and ask for update, once you know whats happening, either way, i would explain that your disappointed at thier customer service due to that fact you have been left without contact from them twice and the worry and concern you have felt that your child may not recieve thier present at xmas, solely down to the fact that its been left too late to order elsewhere and you have already given them money for which to pay for a new one, had you needed to. And depending on the respose to a new delivery time, you can maon about that. Are you expected to sit and worry that the next date may not be til jan 09. I dont think thats fair. And dont feel worried about telling them of the downfalls as its this feedback that helps them put things right.
    HTH - Sorry to ramble!!!!

The same thing has happened to me, except on a shorter timescale. I bought stuff which was supposed to be delivered today. I phoned them up, and they said that sorry the item (trampoline) had been damaged and now it was out of stock.

They took my money on Tuesday. They also said that I had to phone them next wednesday to see if it was back in stock, but that they wouldn't phone me, or fulfil the order if the item came in before wednesday:confused:.

I don't get it. Why should I have to chase them? I had to phone them to find out why I didn't get a delivery. Now I have to phone them while they're sitting with my money?
  • Argos did this to me last year, I ordered a TV unit on line for £70 plus PandP, they gave me a delivery date and time.I waited it and nothing came, I rang them and an assistant said to give them until 9pm as they were still delivering.
It never arrived rang back in the morning, it was never coming it was out of stock and Id have to wait at least 2 weeks for my money to go back on my card.I was livid they took the money for an out of stock item. They agreed to send me £25 in vouchers.
The next day a knock at the door and there is the TV unit, they also refunded my money and sent me the £25.I know it was dishonest and I really thought they would realise and I would have paid for it but they never chased it up, I got a tv unit and £25 because of their stupid practices.

I've just had this happen to me...bought a Christmas tree in the sale, went through checkout, got a confirmation email saying it would be delivered Friday...it didn't arrive, I emailed them and they replied that it would be delivered today....I called them today, it was never coming, it's out of stock, but I have paid and I will get one when it comes back in stock......

Well thanks, but I have no need of a Christmas tree in March...

So I've cancelled it and got a revund that is taking 7 days to get back to my account.

    Hi there,

Can you tell me what is the best way to get compensated with vouchers or something before I phone them? I actually ordered 2 trampolines, and the excuse I was given (when I phoned to chase up the delivery) was that the item was damaged. Well I can imagine one being damaged, but 2? No way - it's very obviously a lie.

    Thanks

Argos always charge CCs on order, not on delivery--if you complain they say "You can cancel"
