Direct Debits

Options
I would like to pay a phone bill by regular direct debit from my bank account. However the only problem is the phone bill is not in my name and when I try to amend the details on the online system it tells me that "I should confirm that I am authorized to use this account" and also that the bank account is in my name. Could someone please tell me is it fine to just tick this box or should I not do this as it could lead to complications.

I think it could lead to problems - they obviously want the phone bill and the bank account to be in the same name. There may be a way of doing it offline that would be more acceptable

There's no problem making regular payments for an account not in your name. But the mandate that is filed with your Bank - to enable the DD - must obviously mate with your account details. So if it facilitates that .... then just tick the box.

But (just as you have to do if paying on behalf of someone else with your Debit Card in a 'cardholder not present' situation.... otherwise it will be rejected as the name / address won't match) - the most practical way to do it is to ring them and not attempt to 'make it fit' online.
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
