BT Offered discount then denied all knowledge???

Hi All, i've posted this on the telephones board also but please have a read,
Back in July/August time when i started on the whole money saving thing, i did a broadband comparison and found that i could get the same internet connection cheaper if i left BT broadband.
I rang them up to cancel and they offered me a 4 month deal (no contract) of £18.50 (Approx) a month for my existing 2mb connection, which i agreed to as i could still leave the company by giving just the standard 30 day notice.
After the first few weeks i noticed the discount had not been applied, so i called them and was advised that the discount had not been applied in time for my bill but will definately be on my next statement.
This however the discount still did not apply, i have since left BT due to a house move, and have received a demanding letter.
I called them today and they have completely denied all knowledge of this offered discount, i told them that the person i spoke to previously had put a note on my account, which has now conveniently disappeared.
I am disgusted that this has happened with such a big company, and they are now saying my final bill is £40.23....when infact it should be approx £14.00 with the discount???
Did anyone else get offered this around the same time, as BT refuse to say this offer existed?? Has anyone had a similar experience?
Any advice would be much appreciated, i am waiting a phone call from a manager (should be monday as im away at the weekend).
So if you have anything to support this 'so called' offer please let me know so i can get my evidence ready.
Best Regards
Donna

I guess the advice is whenever we get offered stuff like this on the phone we need to take down the name of the person offering it, and ask that the offer is sent to us in writing.
I agreed to an ntl broadbaand signup offer, and when it was done I was charged 10 pounds for installation, never mentioned to me even though I asked him if there were to be any other costs involved.
Luckily for me CS ntl quickly agreed to wipe it off my bill with no quibble.
And when I lost telephone service and ntl messed up on fixing it and coming to my house to check it was working, when I phoned to ask where the engineer was who was supposed to have called to fix my phone...after some bull from the engineer we agreed a new appointment time and the CS guy offered me some compensation.
It wasn't specified on my following bill. which annoyed me but I decided to wait till the next bill, and on that one it is shown as a seperate credit of 6 pounds, having previously been credited in relation to the last bill (if you get my drift).
I am now waiting for my bank statement to arrive to confirm my direct debit last month was for 12 pounds (as listed on the 2nd bill) and not 18 pounds (as demanded from the first bill).
So maybe we should all start recording our phonecalls :beer:0
