Purchasing a £0.00 item at Argos

So, I went into my local Argos today hoping to order a Micro Machines Playset for my nephew's birthday. When I looked in the catalogue, I noticed that it also comes with a free mini playset so I thought 'great'! But when it came to checking stock, all the Micro Machines playests had all sold out and was left feeling rather frustrated and disappointed. Anyway, I checked the stock for the free mini playset and it came up as £0.00 and 10 in stock! I was thinking about paying for it at the quick-pay kiosk (along with some storage boxes) to avoid hassle/funny looks at the till but just wanted to ask MSE members, have you ever ordered a free item at Argos before and received it with no problems?

This is the link to the item I wanted to order and details of the special offer (catalogue number for free playset not available online):

When the 2004 RO list was doing the round there was some telephones on at £0.00. My wife went in to pickup a tool case (also from the RO list aprox £5) plus a couple of the phones that I reserved by phone. She paid using the quick pay machine.

When she went to the counter they gave her the tool box, but then went away for a few minutes and came back with the manager who started asking her lots of questions where she got the code for the telephones from. Basically they said she could have them aslong as she was prepared to wait for the police to turn as they accused her of defrauding the system!

    Did she wait then? lol
I don't really see what the problem is, we customers put in the code of the item we want and the price stated is the price we pay, no? It's not our fault if it comes up as £0.
The code for this was in the catalogue along with the other playsets though.

It has got to be worth a go. There is no way the police would be interested in this though!!

Just print off any web page showing £0.00 as evidence.

the code was only in the catalogue (not online) beside the other playsets and states that you get it the mini one free if you buy one of the big sets.

oh well, i'll give it a go tomorrow anyway, was a bit annoyed that i couldn't get what i wanted at first and maybe they'll let me off on a busy saturday afternoon ;)
  • the codes arent for public use, they are for the company so cashiers can add free items to the till or for them to be added automatically.

And who/what decides who gets a free item?

what has it got to do with the police?

You are not defrauding the system....their system has been poorly configured thats all...you are just a user of that system, you are not accountable for how badly it has been setup...just taking advantage of a flaw which could be viewed as being immoral.

I would say "go ahead".......when I make my offer of 0.00 and they accept I am not commiting any fraud.....however, they can ask for it back as the offer has to be of a nominal value...ie. even 1p or a potato, but 0.00 isnt acceptable......just offer them 0.00p and a potato!!
