applying for a Barclays bank account

You can only apply for a bank account online if you answer "yes" to a series of questions, one of which is that you have a regular income or salary to pay in.
Does anyone know if you have to have a regular income paid in? I only want the account so I can manage my savings online - I don't like having another account just to get to my existing one but this seems the only way. I certainly don't want to pay anything in regularly.

Don't know if it helps, but I have a Barclays Bank Account that I don't pay anything into monthly, although I did when I first opened it.0
