They do exist and are normally used where gangs of youths congregate, especially after someone complains that a 'Mosquito' is cruel on the little darlings. The idea is that if they cant get a signal to 'txt there m8' sat next to them they'll move on to where they can get a signal.

My teenage daughter tells us that some of the kids in her class downloaded a recording of the 'mosquito' as a ringtone and use it so the teacher can't hear their phone ringing in class.

Should be possible to make one A team style - it uses microwaves which can be blocked using a mesh - similar to what is found on a microwave door. All you need is enough to cover the walls and wallpaper over it ;)

... and you'll need to multiple layers of it as Mobile telephony systems currently operate at 900MHz, 1800MHz and 2100MHz. Before you get too excited and buy up loads of Microwaves and cover his walls with the doors, they work at ~2400MHz so wouldn't filter. :D:D

Get you own back, by a keyring sized remote control pad from anywhere, ie £1 shops.

This thread is getting confusing with refs to the Mosquito teenage-annoyer and to mobile blocking.

However it turns out to be a compelling idea: Teenagers would never hang around where there was no mobile connection for fear of missing their text messages! So a mob blocker will be as effective as The Mosquito!
