Sky Bill over 1 year late

I stopped paying for Sky By Direct Debit so that they would cut me off which they did, They sent I final Bill which I paid.
They sent a letter saying I owed nothing.
They sent a please come back to us card.

A few weeks later they sent a new bill for a pay per view event from a year before.
I dont even remember watching this but as it was only £14.95 from June 2007 I thought I'd phone and see if they were just having a laugh.
No they say the card/ box has only just sent the order details in October 2008, because they say the phone line was not connected.
well the phone line has always been connected, they say that sometimes the box / card can take up to 3 years to send the info .
Has any body else had this, should I keep having a go at them or should I just pay up .

We have never had our sky connected to our telephone line (when we got it installed about 8 years ago we told the guy we were awaiting new flooring and not to bother) and when we want to order a movie we just plug it in and it gets added on to our bill - we have never had an issue with back paid bills.
