EMA Paid Into My Other Bank, How Did They Get My Details?

Options
Hi
So i started full-time college in september, and i had applied for EMA and been accepted, all was good untill i got the letter back telling me where the money will be paid.
Ive got a current account with LloydsTSB & a savings account with my local building society Derbyshire which i opened just for my EMA to go into, so when i applied for EMA i sent off a letter with my Derbyshire details on for it to go into.
But when i got the acceptence letter back, the account number and sort code was completly different, and i worried abit untill i checked both my banks statements and found the details of my Lloyds account to be the same, so i was relieved but then i couldn't understand how they got the details of my Lloyds account
I contacted EMA and explained that it was being paid into the wrong account and the woman on the other side just kept saying if i want it transfering to a different account then just write to them with the details, so i dont think she understood that i was trying to say how did you get my details? lol
anyone have any answers? i didnt send ANYTHING at all with my Lloyds details on, but its being paid into there...

EMA isnt a benefit, bryanb. It's like a grant given to 16-18 year olds in further education... its got nothing to do with the DWP.

  • yes ive got everything back from what i sent off, and EMA is funded by the Learning Skills Council... to answer that question, ino its hard to beleave but it is actually puzzling how they got my details, the only other reason i could think of, was when i opened my account with the Derbyshire i used one of my Lloyds statements as proof of address but surely they couldnt get hold of that information?
