Ski: Transfer from Geneva airport to Flaine France

Hi all,

I have just booked a ski holiday for the week of 29MAR-4APR 09 in Flaine/France. I will be flying from london to geneva. Does anyone know a cheap option for a transfer from the geneva airport to the resort? I have been googleing and could not find anything cheaper than EUR360/4people or EUR390/6 people.

Help is much appreciated

That sounds about right. I always use AlpLine (http://www.alp-line.com/en/home.htm) who are very good. They quote 389 euros (return) for 6 in a private transfer minibus on your dates.

You can get a coach from Geneva airport to Flaine (http://212.203.98.98/WW70AWP/WW70AWP.EXE/CTX_6808-16-WjNZwijtvd/Main/SYNC_-2059172468?DRAPEAU_EN). Its 123 CHF (£67) return per person so it won't work out much cheaper (although kids are half price so it might if you have a lot of kids in the group?)

I think you can also get a bus from Cluses station but not sure of the details. And it would mean a lot more hassle of getting trains, buses etc with all your gear.

Sorry, if the coach link doesn't work try this: http://212.203.98.98
  • have you thought about hiring a car for the week? at that kind of price for the transfers it may be cheaper.

holiday autos would get my vote but if you go for this option make sure you get snow chains etc included

I doubt this will be much cheaper (especially if there are 6 of you and a lot of gear - you'll need a people carrier or a minibus or something). I suppose it might be worth thinking about if you're planning to get out and about from Flaine. For me it wouldn't be worth it in either money (especially once you've paid for fuel) or hassle, but it might suit you.

At GVA cars hired from the Swiss side should by law come with snow chains (and proper winter tyres) as standard. Sometimes you have to pay extra if you hire on the French side. If you plan to drive up to Flaine you should definitely have them.

Incidentally, I don't think 390 Euros is really that expensive for 6 people when you think about it.

(I'm not talking about any particular transfer company here - I'm sure they're all similar prices)

It breaks down to about £25 each way per person. That's for a 2 hour journey each way in a private minibus, you're met at arrivals, they wait for you if the plane is late, they pick you up from your accomodation at the end of the holiday and get you back to GVA in time for your flight. They deal with driving on snow and ice, not you...

Obviously there are other resorts that are more cheaply accessible from major airports, and its always going to be cheaper to get to resorts served by train. But I don't really see this as a rip-off.
