I was wondering if anyone knew much about wireless internet - we have an existing virgin broadband which we have hooked up to a wireless router with I use my MacBook with (this just automatically connected when I first switched it on) but recently my auntie gave me her old PC, which I've put in the kids room, it has windows Xp and apparently a belkin wireless card, but I can't figure out how to get it to connect to the internet on the wireless signal? Can anybody help?

I was recently setting up wireless on an old Toshiba laptop for a relative and ran into difficulty even though her Talk Talk broadband was working fine.
After two long sessions on the Talk Talk helpline, first of all I discovered wireless had to be switched on by a very tiny switch on the front of the laptop.
The last problem was eventually identified as the original Intel wireless driver which was by then almost 5 years old.
If this might be the problem in your case, use Device Manager to have a look at the network adapter to see the age of the driver.
If it is very old, you can use google to find the latest driver, download it and then install via Device Manager.
Hope this helps.0 -
firstly, check in control panel/system/hardware tab, if the wireless card is recognised and functioning correctly. you can also check the drivers for it there. If all seems to be well, go back to control panel/network connections and create a new connection to your router...take it from there...worst-case is if the wireless card is duff, pick up a USB wireless dongle to get you connected........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple
