Help, Cheap 2nd Vehicle insurance required

Hello All

I have bought a tatty 2nd hand Escort Van for trips to the rubbish tip and dog walking etc so as not to ruin my main vehicle.

The van only cost me £300 and i'm only going to do about a thousand miles a year in it at most.

I have 7 years protected no claims on my main car but am having real trouble finding cheap insurance for the van as nobody will take this into account.

I'm getting quotes of between £300 and £600!!!

I just want to be legal from an insurance point of view, don't care if it gets stolen or damaged.

Any suggestions on how I can insure the van cheaper!

Many thanks for any help

I would try a broker rather than one of the online companies. You need a human rather than a computer who will just categorise vans as high risk.

I think there are some companies who will insure a second vehicle and take into account no claims. I think Elephant is one - they were certainly good about allowing me to insure my partners car using my no claims.

    Good luck.

elephant and admiral will mirror NCB if your other policy is with them, but generally I'd echo the sentiment that a broker is probably your best bet rather than calling the companies direct or using the web.
if it's more than 10 stone, and that hairy, it's probably not a dog...it may be a wookie.

I think most 2nd car policies won't cover vans (insurance companies know that tradesmen often lie about their van usage to get cheap insurance). If you can't get a cheap 2nd car policy for the van, why not try using your NCB on the van and getting a cheap 2nd car policy on your car? It seems the wrong way round, but it's often the best way of doing things.
