Can anyone offer some good advice as to the best way to invest a little money in actual gold, please ? Has anyone had any bad experience of advertised companies for this ? Thanks ! :T

  • Citigroup says gold could rise above $2,000 next year as world unravels

"What happens if there is a meltdown in a country like Pakistan, which is a nuclear power. People react when they have their backs to the wall.
We're already seeing doubts emerge about the sovereign debts of developed AAA-rated countries, which is not something you can ignore," he said.

Gold traders are playing close attention to reports from Beijing that the China is thinking of boosting its gold reserves from 600 tonnes to nearer 4,000 tonnes to diversify away from paper currencies. "If true, this is a very material change," he said.

Gold has tripled in value over the last seven years, vastly outperforming Wall Street and European bourses.

Is gold a hedge against a nuclear apocalypse or should I just buy a shotgun, dodge charger and a tanker of petrol:confused:

I think he's got some money in 'Blackrock Gold and General fund' (mining stocks).

Yep Blackrock Gold and General fund is my only involvement with gold. Opinion is divided whether it is best to have gold commodity or gold stocks, maybe half and half is an idea. At present gold stocks seem to be playing catchup with the commodity value and are doing well at present.

Peter Schiff and Citygroup are predicting $2000 gold next year (well he was right about $1000 gold in 2008). Anyway I think you should be prepared to hold Gold for the long run if necessary not just bank on 2009.
