Same as Trollop, opened the same Regular Saver Bond 5 two days ago online, and wasn't asked to send ID.
Apart from normal name and address etc, the only other qualification-type question they seem to answer is "time at present address". I was wondering whether the sort on that answer, e.g. anyone less than x years is asked for ID. (For ref, my answer was over 10.)0 -

Must be me then
Or the address anomaly... we've been here 24 yrs!Trollop wrote:do they send out a confirmation letter when the account has been opened? Does this letter include your account number? Will you be funding the account by setting up a standing order online? (I assume this is possible, once you're given your account details)
Yes, short letter. Doesn't include the account number, nor any further instructions, but the passbook is enclosed which has it (and also records the initial deposit). Inside is also printed a Principality sort code/account number, which I assume is where standing orders are paid to, but will check at the branch next Thursday... would you like me to post back then to let you know?
I'll also ask if paying into the branch is possible as it might be useful in the odd month, but then I have one not far away which you possibly don't?
(I had a similar account with Abbey a couple of years ago, and it wasn't possible with that... the money had to go in SO.)~cottager0 -

Yes please. When I rang up customer services, they seemed to mentioned that you MUST use a printed standing order form and post it to Principality. I don't see the need to do this way, that's why I was wondering how everyone else is gonna do there standing orders.I'll also ask if paying into the branch is possible as it might be useful in the odd month, but then I have one not far away which you possibly don't?
Yep, unfortunately, there isn't any local branches as far as I know.
Thanks for the info.0 -
OK, will do. Will also ask about the necessity for a printed form and sending it to Cardiff too. With the Abbey one I had before I'm sure I just set up the SO myself with online banking. I agree: can't see any good reason for going all round the houses, unless the PBS form is pre-printed with all the account details and they think we can't get it right ourselves!
Anyway, where do you get the form from then, if (like you) you don't have a branch nearby? Is it on the site? Did they offer to send you one? There wasn't one enclosed with my passbook, which you'd think there would be if they're saying their own form is necessary.
Several questions for Thursday then...~cottager0 -

Several questions for Thursday then...11. We will provide you with a form to authorise your bank or building society to make your standing order. You must complete and forward this to your bank or building society. It is your responsibility as the account holder to ensure that standing orders are set up correctly and that payments are made in accordance with the terms and conditions.
12. If you choose to make payments by standing order, you must set up your standing order payments to leave your account on or before the 20th of each month. If a payment is missed as a result of your failiure to complete and arrange the standing order mandate with your bank, or as a result of any error on the part of your bank, the payment will be treated by us as a missed payment for interest calculation purposes.0 -
So that is the only way to set up a standing order? That seems abit lame tbh.0

If you go ahead with your Regular Saver Bond application, Compound, I would certainly be very interested to hear if electronic ID works for you, as it may help solve what keeps happening with me
When you've been through the online process, would you mind posting again to let me know? -- thanks!0 -

Trollop, checked at the branch as promised, and they said it's completely unnecessary. From my bank I've now set up my own SO arrangement online. Use the Principality sort code/account number inside the front cover of the passbook as the destination, and quote your account number at the top of the first page as the payment reference. If you don't have online access to your bank account I'm sure they could provide you with a generic standing order form to fill in and return, or set it up for you in branch while-u-wait if you called in.~cottager0
