Try searching on google rather than on here, loads of options, however I have always found it very expensive to make so tend to buy them now instead.
One day I might be more organised...........

I did try Google, but I thought someone may have a tried and tested recipe which is why I posted on here ;)

Please be careful when posting book recipes, I think you need to either direct people to it online or get permission IIRC. I am sure one of the Board Guides will be able to advise on that. Hence I suggested google ;) as the one I used previously was in a book.

    Hi Pitlanepiglet,

lil_me is right. I'm afraid we can't post recipes that have been published elsewhere (either in books or on the web) on MSE for copyright reasons. See here for more details.

  • As ever for the classics, Delia is your best bet (IMHO). Here's her recipe and whilst the instructions are for a "swiss roll" type finish, you can adapt it for the traditional gateau appearance.
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)
  • You're all making me hungry. Again. You're very naughty.

A really good home made Black Forest Gateau can't be beaten but it won't come cheap. A typical recipe is here

I'll mention Lidl for 2 reasons..

    1. Tomorrow one of their weekly specials is an essential ingredient - a bottle of Kirsch.
    2. Lidl do a nice BFG in their freezer cabinet. It's a genuine German version and it's a little more authentic than the British supermarket version e.g shortcrust base.
