Fuji A340 Digital Camera 4MP less than £60!

This is just too good to get lost in the Boots Thread - Something to get really excited about at this price!!

Without doubt, in my opinion, this has to be the best digital camera deal around - 4MP to boot, speciaist Brand name manufacturer and true 3 x optical zoom. Buy em for pressies later in the year at this price.

At £57.50 (much less if you include Boots vouchers etc) I cannot belive these are going be be around for long.

I have been looking for a while and nothing at this price comes close ... in particular it has a 3x Optical Zoom - others at this price level are digital zoom (almost a waste of time in respect of picture quality).

As for the picture quality itself click on this link

For less than £60 how good is that?

As for downsides - there is always one or two but then consider the price!
It uses the XD card (50% more expensive than SD Cards). As with most cameras 16mb standard - exta 256MB from Amazon for £12:77 (more than enough for most people - over 300 pictures) and post free if order something else to take it over £15.

It also uses regular batteries (what did u expect at this price?).

The case is also plastic with what appears to be metal edging which helps - but not to be used for football or shoulving in a back pocket to be sat on (bloke thing) - padded case would definately help but cost only a couple of quid. But I suspect the biggest problem could be getting hold of the camera at this price.

As for me - I was a bit cheeky and got another £10 off !!! .... cos the only one they had had very briefly been a display model.

NB - Details of this were on the flyer in local newspaper for in-store ... says available from 6th January. Suggest u phone local store to see if they have had their allocation yet. NOT showing on Boots.com at the time of posting - do not cofuse with more expensive A345 model.

If they do get online bigger savings possible particularly with 10% off voucher for orders over £75

  • I bought the E510 from argos for 90 quid, down from £180...Now that was a good deal. But 60 quid for a camera like this is great value
  • We too have this flyer. Also a Fuji Sd64mb card is down from 23.99 to 9.99.And the Nikon Coolpix 4200 1/2 price at 114.99.
    All from 6th January

That one seems to be a later model, 345, not 340.

Does anyone know if this is a true 4mp camera and not a 2m interpolated one? Fuji have a habit of being economical with this.

  • I have a A303 and this was the next one up from this so will not be interpolated and will be a unique 4MP AFAIK.

They are a superb camera, I paid £180 for mine a few years ago and at the time that was classed as a bargain.

I think you are referring to the "super CCDs" that Fuji make (with octagonal rather than sqaure pixels) which means the CCD has more pixels than the image (which is meant to result in a better image).

This camera has a CCD with 4.23 million pixels and at highest resolution results in images of 2272 x 1704 (4MP).

Uses regular batteries as a downside? This is an advantage! It uses AA batteries so you can use any AA sized batteries including cheap to buy rechargeable ones, you don't have to use alkaline ones (and indeed would be daft if you did) . The alternative is a proprietary power pack that you have to recharge - unless you buy another "expensive) proprietary battery you can't be charging and taking pictures at the same time. And with AA even if you run out of rechargables you always have the option of alkalines to capture a shot at the end of a long day.

I would also say that more recent cameras have not only higher resolutions but can also have faster shutter speeds, smaller lag times between shots, better in-camera software (e.g. red eye reduction), better lenses, better LCDs etc..

My first digital camera was a Fuji and I was very disappointed with the build quality, it quite literally came to pieces. This was 5 years ago and of course YMMV.

Just spoke to Boots CS, and there's none in any of the stores in Suffolk. There is 1 in each of the Brentwood, Romford, Clacton-on-sea, Norwich, Gt Yarmouth stores, but they are all a little too far to go for me unfortunately.
