French videos: No Colour

Hello all
Just wondered if any one knows what my problem is lol.
Basically I've got these French videotapes, but when I play them all the films/recorded programs are in black and white.
Now I know videotapes are a thing of the past, but they were only recorded in the 90s.
Now I remember someone one mentionning that maybe we use a different format, is this so?
Also if I bought a french vhs player, would this do the trick and play them in colour ?

Oui - those pesky French use the Secam system where as we use PAL .
Most UK VHS players only do PAL and the US NTSC
Not sure if a French VHS would work - on a modern TV I suspect it would0 -
I think it's down to the way colour is implemented in the system

a french player would SHOW them in B/W as well its the TV change it to Secam / NTSC.0

Pah, no offense meant to the sheep burning ones, they make some excellent cheese, and are, or at least the ones I've met, lovely, welcoming people, even if they do have curious tastes in cuisine, and have a reputation for striking or rioting if someone poops in their general direction.
