If they get a nice basket on Christmas eve with bits to do to keep them amused and some nice things to encourage them to go to bed then the parents can have a nice bit of quality time to share together on xmas eve without running up and down trying to get the kids to settle down.

Yeah, thanks for that. I have two children of my own and your implication that all children live with both parents is pretty presumptive.

Bah Humbug!! They're not children for long....I think this is a lovely way of making the season special and magical for them. I haven't done it for mine this year but will certainly think about it next year. Thanks for the ideas!Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!
