The debt is not a gambling debt if it is on a credit card. You borrow the money from the credit card issuer and then what you do with it is up to you; if you spend it all at a casino, bookmaker or on online poker is of no concern to the lender. This is one of the reasons for treating online gambling transactions as cash advances.

TBH it is a bit of a fallacy - gambling debts were not enforceable under common law so basically gamblers had to put the money up front, it didn't matter if they ended up in debt elsewhere. The kind of places that would let you gamble without putting the money down usually had other methods of making sure you paid (these were not always legitimate businesses, more your typical gangster run gambling den).
I also seem to recall that the "Safe Bet for Success" proposals a couple of years ago made gambling debts enforceable but can't recall if these made it into legislation.

I would think a better place to direct you to is GA

As Galstonian has correctly pointed out above, monies owed to a gambling house are difficult for them to recover via the law (which is why they tend to use Big Al and his mates) - which is why most forms of gambling are on a 'cash up front' basis, which is how you play on-line via your credit card. I believe this is also the case for share and option dealing, although it might look like you are dealing via a 'credit account' the transactions are in cash.
