Does anyone use those 'pay for' screensavers like the aquarium ones? Do you find them pheraputic or anything? And is there a possibility that some of them contain ad/malware? Was going to treat myself to one..unless you know of any nice free ones out there?
Cheers

Not nowadays although the serene scene aquarium is ok and paid for. Up to you really. Vista has them built in, have you looked for them?0

It would be safer to buy a Screen Saver cd-rom from a computer store as you never know what Malware or Virus could be embedded in any mainly free downloads from the net!
Another way is to download a freebie from a big company that you deal with. I get some from Nintendo with a few point.0 -

Keep an eye on Give Away Of The Day they are forever giving screensavers away - and they had an aquarium one a few months back.“That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.”0 -
If you are into abstract stuff .. there's two I'd recommend ..
Maya Paint Effects .. download from .. http://vista-themes.net/maya-paint-effects-screensaver.html
Gold Lace .. download from .. http://www.brothersoft.com/publisher/sergey_pronin_15341.html
I found some spectacular free ones here too .. http://www.reallyslick.com/0 -
Thank you everyone

Totalsolutions- I've not got Vista at the moment
Phoodless-Will keep my eye on this site thank you!
& PikeyP- That "Reallyslick" site is awesome. The Cyclone one at the bottom of the page reminds me of a favorite one of mine with lots of coloured dots being trown around the screen
My all time favorite screen savers though were part of the "After Dark Collection", anyone remember those - Bad Dog! The hand behind the dirty glass writing messages, and the costomisable pinball one. Dont think it works with XP, Vista?Sealed Pot Challenge 15 #78

The best screensaver ever was Johnny Castaway.
I didn't know anyone still bothered with them nowadays as screen burn is much less of an issue these days. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -

Screen burn or not, There's no way I'd leave my monitor alone for long without having the screenie on. They have other uses too, you could password protect your screen (I don't) and I'm betting those Aquarium ones are relaxing to watch
I've not encountered Johnny Castaway, one of the earlier ones?Sealed Pot Challenge 15 #78

Ahh.. After Dark .. the flying toasters!! .. I remember it well.
Here's a couple more you might like to fiddle around with ..
Organic Art .. http://www.freesaver.com/organic.htm .. I think this was in the Microsoft Plus pack for Windows 98? .. or was it ME??
Electric Sheep .. http://electricsheep.org/ .. bit different this one, since your PC's sheep will communicate with other sheep 'online' and morph abstract animations as a result.0 -
I have copied a post I put in in the freebies forum about a year ago. I think they're still all active. There might be more out there, but I haven't had time to look.

Thought I'd post a couple of useful screen savers you can download for free. You will basically be downloading an application that will work as a screensaver. When you're not using your computer it will use your computer to make calculations for a worthy cause. Read more on each page what it does and for whom - most of these sound a bit techie, but don't let that scare you off.

I am sure there are plenty more useful projects around - if anyone knows any feel free to post them.0
