Help! Web Page Identifier?

Hi,

Does anyone know the websites you can use to identify individuals who are running or trading from a website address when they aren't showing details openly? I have used them before but have lost the links. Any help would be great!

  • Are you trying to identify a spoof website, or looking for the postal address of the company behind the website?

Sorry dumb question, but it's late and the brain isn't functioning properly!

If the web address ends .uk ( .co.uk or .org.uk) then the central register for these addresses (every address with these endings are listed) is http://www.nominet.org.uk/ Look down at the bottom right of the screen to see the whois box. Enter the address without the www.

If it is a .com or .net or any other endings. I find this address very useful http://www.betterwhois.com/ if the address is registered on a different system they give you the link to the registry of where the website is registered.

Sometimes people use a proxy signup service. In these instances, you can only find out who the proxy is. Not the actual owner of the site. In a case like this, I would never sign up with a site for anything requiring bank/credit card details.

There are a few more that I use, but these two will get most website ownership details for you.
