Talk Talk will charge for 1571

I thought I might save money by switching to T/talk, but looking at the small print they will be charging 50p extra per month for 1571 service as well as increasing the line rental next month ! so I reckon I'll stay with BT for time being.
Just a note to others.... if you do switch from BT and your number was always witheld, you must phone T/Talk and tell them to withold it as this is not automatic.

Hmm, hadn't realised TalkTalk were now only offering new customers WLR (wholesale Line Rental) rather than just CPS (carrier pre-select). No more referrals from me I guess.
  • TT do still offer CPS but they charge top rate, no promotions.

Is that the common or garden 1571 that is free with BT you are refferring to ,or do they charge 50p more then BT for the advanced one?
  • Its the common 1571. You will find that any line features that you previously will not be automatically transfered on registration with most providers.

Providers have two types of transfers available - like for like and Service Provider Defined. If the provider you are going with offers a like for like transfer then you will keep all of your previous features (if available). If not then your setup will be generic and you will need request the features you require.

TalkTalk line rental with caller display + 1571 = £12.49, the same with BT £11.

TalkTalk can block cheap call access and throw you off their service for trying to use cheap call providers.

I've always said always keep line rental with BT, now seems even more a no brainer with TalkTalk charging too much and with limitations.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

But of course, these rip-off companies will have a go at trying to push up prices if they think customers won't notice.

True, then it is our job to inform the public.

I've just called Talk Talk as a potential customer and was told that line rental is free for 1st 3 months then £9.99 thereafter ..inc voicemail and caller display it'll be £11.99 .

Is this cheaper than BT for the same service..??

    No.

BT Line Rental with 141, 1470, Premium number barring, 1471, 1571 basic and Caller I.D. now costs £11/month by DD.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
