Natwest Step account

Hello

I have applied for a natwest step account on line it came up that its been agreed in princple. I have had bad credit in the past but trying to improve it now.

Can anyone tell me if natwest do credit checks on step accounts I wanted an advantage gold account, but it came up with step account on the accounts page

Comments

  • Yes, they do credit check, but the step account should be avaliable to pretty much everyone. As long as you arent bankrupt i think.

I have one that i dont use anymore, but was really useful at the time.

I had really bad credit history when I applied for mine and I had no probs opening one. Have to say that I was really happy with it.

You need to be eligible to have the full current plus to have an advantage gold I am afraid. :(

Did you just apply for 'current account' and it came back with STEP? if so, they have credit checked you but you aren't eligible for current.

The NatWest Step account is their most basic bank account. As mentioned above it is available to anyone (unless they are bankrupt)

You will receive a Solo debit card. This card is very good despite what have been said on these forums. They are widely accepted in the UK.

It will not matter how good you run this account, NatWest will not upgrade it to the Current Plus account. However, I run my Step account well for a few years and later applied for the Current Plus account and was accepted with Maestro £250 cheque guarantee and £500 overdraft.

Although they don't upgrade the account directly they do take into account how your Step account was run in the past.
