Download Problem - Downloads Don't!!

Options
This one is puzzling me.

At present, whenever I try and download a file via browser - eg from Download.com or driver updates etc, the download starts, completes instantly and only results in a corrupt file of a few hundred KB or less in size.

I don't appear to have a virus and it works exactly the same if I turn off ZoneAlarm.

Windows firewall is off and my Netgear DG834G router is on the same settings it always has been on previously.

Other downloads, by other methods (Bearshare, MSI LiveUpdate etc etc) all work normally.

ANY CLUES ANYBODY??? I'M PUZZLED.

zonealarm pro has a setting that can block downloads of files (mime objects), does it still do it if you completely exit ZA (i.e. it's not in the bottom right hand corner of the screen). Failing that, try uninstalling ZA, to see if that is the culprit

Quick and easy one - I assume you've got plenty of HD space etc?

Does it actually ask where you want to save these files?

I was going to suggest you try a different browser (I'm a big Firefox addict!), but downloading it might be difficult

One last thing, have you tried the old "Right Click and Save Target As"?

  • Which browser are you using?

See here for possible solutions for IE.
  • I actually think there is a problem sometimes with Download.com, as I have the exact same problems as you do.
I use firefox, same problem, exit zonealarm, same problem. So I don,t think this has to do with your software, but with download.com,s software.

I think I've got a knackered copy of IE6. Downloads work fine on Opera.

Next question: how do I reinstall IE6?? Can't seem to do it from Microsoft website or from Add/Remove Software.

Just pop your XP CD in the drive and if it autostarts just stop it..

Now do this... Start, Run, Type, sfc /scannow then ok.

If you havent a XP CD try the restore disc you got with the PC
also after scan remove any CDs and restart PC
