If you take something from a skip without the owners permission it is theft as they legally own the item. Do what I do, just knock the door and ask if you can have whatever it is.... always works for me and nobody can say I've stolen it then. Plus a lot of times they have asked if I'd like other stuff that they are going to get rid of that's not yet in the skip, win/win situation.
Anyway I think what the guy is trying to do is great and I'll follow his story too, I wish him good luck.I won't buy it if I can make or borrow it instead

I would like to know which is right, one way or another.
I have had skips and never had a problem if people picked stuff out of them (in fact I would put any usable stuff really visible for people to help themselves). The REAL thieves are the one who throw their rubbish and rubble on other people's skips - we had one last summer and within days it was filled overnight with someone else's rubble, the B*ST*RDS!

I have a real problem with people taking stuff out of skips.
Every time I carefully plan how big a skip is needed and I carefully fill it to make optimum use of the space then some rotten b****rs come along and takes stuff out.
Last time I used Hippo bags I very carefully squeezed everything in to two bags on the Friday, by the time I phoned to have them collected on the Monday I'd been left with two bags half full.
Next time I need a skip I'm just going to dump everything on the drive, advertise a skip dive in the local free-ads then order a skip after everyone's had their pick!0 -

In Australia they do that. One day per month they put their rubbish, unwanted but usable items, out for anyone to take away. it's called Pavement Shopping.0 -

i know around here they used to allow you to take certain ones, they were thinning out etc...
but today my youngest told he he seen it on the news you can not do this anymore.. maybe because of the price of fuel going up etc... more and more people are now burning wood it got too much...
I can see where you are coming from as you got to keep the forest eco system in flow so to speak...Work to live= not live to work0
