Debenhams Refund Of Sale Items

Options
I am really cross.

I bought serveral items in the Debenhams sale. One being a jumper for my husband. It did not fit. I took it back to be told as it was half price I cannot have a refund

A small poster behind the till does state this but what shop these days don't do refunds.

I asked for a credit note and was told no. Has to be an exchange.

I picked up a T shirt that was not in the sale and I plan to take this back and see if I can get refunded that way.

I am really cross as the store is so busy you cannot try things on. I think the annoying man on the loud speaker should point out that anything you buy in their half price sale cannot be refunded if you change your mind

The shop does not have to refund the item unless it is faulty.

You said the above at the end of the post but at the start you said

So it did say that you could not receive a refund.

Bootman,I think it is understandable that you are cross.
Even if they are within their rights to refuse a refund as gewens has said,it is poor customer service and is going to cost them their customer's goodwill.
I find Debenhams to be quite expensive on the whole (although I have had some mega bargains in the past) and I suspect that they see themselves as pretty up-market,so if the customer has the receipt they should refund them IMO.

Debenhams have had this policy for ages now - at least since last summer - maybe longer - not sure. Anything reduced by 50% or more can only be exchanged.

Dont forget - no store has to give a refund at all just because you changed your mind/it doesn't fit etc.

Be grateful that you can exchange the item. You should always check the returns policy before you purchase an item. I really dont think you can blame the store.

Refund policys in most high street stores are becoming stricter because so many people abuse them. Just like you will be when you exchange for a t-shirt and then attempt to get a refund. This is why 'customer goodwill' is rapidly disappearing.
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

It usually says this on the bottom of the receipt, and there are usually quite a lot of posters saying it too!
