Alliance & Leicester Current account travel insurance

On the way home from work I got a free financial newspaper called Money Market. In it it states that new and existing customers travel insurance will be downgraded from free worldwide to free European travel insurance this year. I am an existing customer with free worldwide insurance. Have any other existing customers due for renewal received any notification confirming this change?

Interestingly, I checked the A&L webite on Tuesday (3 Jan) and noted that they were still offering free worldwide travel insurance for new customers with the Premier Current Account. I emailed them (no reply as yet) to see why they were still offering it to new customers when I had just recieved a letter saying mine was to be downgraded.

I checked their website today and they have changed it to say European cover. So looks like no worldwide cover for anyone with A&L from now on.

I have just opene a A&L current account today...as a result of Martin's recommendation here...and the travel insurance is only European and it is only available to the account with the low interest rate not the one I wanted which pays 5%

Don't forget though that depending on how much you keep in your account (and how much tax you pay) you could be better off with travel insurance despite the lower interest rate.
