I am wanting a new camer. We have only had one digital camera (Canon powershot s40) which as been great so would like to stick with Canon.
Ixus seems to have replaced this model.
Trouble is on Amazon there is about a zillion models of Ixus.
My question is there are Ixus models that have been out longer and with less mega pixels eg 6 million versus 10 mega pixels yet the former is dearer (by a good margin than the later)
Budget is not a problem so can anyone give there experiances with the Ixus range and recomend one or tell me why they differ in that way.

I have an Ixus 60 like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-IXUS-Digital-Camera-Optical/dp/B000EW757A/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1227952380&sr=1-3. It's no doubt been replaced by a later model now but I can only comment that it is an excellent little camera which gives perfect results with all I need it for.
There are cheaper cameras on the market but in this case you get what you pay for.
Sturdy build quality and slips easily into a pocket. Very fine lens as you would expect from a Canon and very easy to use.
I haven't a clue why the later ones with more pixels are cheaper. Have they possibly been manufactured down to a price to compete with the competition? ie. lesser build quality or made in China now, mines made in Japan..0 -
I got an isus 500 in 2004 (£250!) and it has been brilliant, the newer versions seem even better but I am so happy with mine I shall keep it till it breaks. I would have thought which ever one you get you will be happy .0

The 80 is only 8MP and gets great reviews.
You'll probably be able to run the other 12MP one at a lower resolution if you want. Specs will probably be available from the Canon site.0 -
I have an Ixus 40 and it is still fab after several years of use. Take anywhere compact and stylish metal body, great build quality, manual control and takes better pictures than many current 10 million pixel cameras which is all down to the quality of the lens. Things have moved on and generally Canon, Panasonic, Fuji etc. have all inproved. My next camera is likely to be another Canon Ixus compact with larger zoom.0

Seems like they are all good.
I suppose I will have to trawl through the specs and see which bits I favour.
I do like the look of the Ixus models that have a 3 inch screen so that narrows it down a wee bit.0 -
I had an original digital Ixus years ago and loved it. I needed a new camera so I bought a 10 megapixel Ixus 90 in the USA last weekend. Took about 300 pics, none of which were particularly good, and during that time grew to dislike the camera as it has really fiddly controls on the back panel. As I had bought the camera from Costco I simply took it back and got a full refund. Kept the pictures though
