Is hot water a 'right' in a rental property?

Having no heating would be a nighmare for me, as i get cold very easily. I think they are asking too much.Married 09/09/090

£500 a month with no hot water sounds a bit off, to me....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

hey, thanks for all your replies. Apparently the aga doesn't heat the hot water. I used to be a hard northerner, but now I can;t contemplate the idea of living in a place with only an electric shower for hot water. Here's the link for Pastures, and anyone else interested in living in the New Forest.http://www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetails-24001472.rsp?pa_n=1&tr_t=rent&mam_disp=true looks bigger in the link than real life.
Unfortunately I'm not going to go for it. Two of the walls are less than 5 meteres away from 7 livery stables. From my own experience, I know how noisy a bored horse in its stable can get, .. kicking a door repeatedly with metal shoes can be worse than water totrure! Plus, having a vague knowledge of horses means I'd feel responsible for them overnight (there is no yard manager, and the main farmyard is not directly next to the stables unlike this wee lil barn thing). .. I think the owner of this property ideally needs to advertise for a hardy type who loves horses.
Well out of my price bracket
It'll smell of poo too!0 -
Having looked at the link, it would be freezing. No home comforts at all. Looks like single skin walls (not even plastered) and no upstairs "ceilings" so no "loft" insulation (= heat straight out the roof). Add to that the bare floors, and you'd never get out of bed! I'd imagine that the building would be suitable as a yard office and not much else. They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0

Out of curiosity, is this legal? Is an electric shower, as the only source of hot water allowable? Plus having no heating other than an aga, is that legal too?
thanks in advance
The landlord needs to provide a means of heating the property which can simply be fan heaters you plug into the power points in the property.
I've never seen any advice regarding the exact provision of hot water.
The building looks cold.
There are no coverings on the downstairs floor and as Strapped pointed out there is no ceiling, loft or wall insulation.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)0 -
If there's no insulation, it wouldn't meet building regs... wonder if they did it legally or not.0

brick walls - VERY cold .....0

Brrr that looks cold!We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

I wonder if there's any insulation in the place?
Looks like bare brick walls downstairs, and probably little or none between the rafters as the roof section looks quite slim.
If it were insulated the aga would warm the place up nicely. As it is I bet it'd be freezing......0 -
From the look of the wall thickness at the windows, they are cavity walls.
The upstairs looks like it has been correctly insulated between the trusses.
It does look more suited to being an office though - it's a bit sparse!British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0
