Cheapest line rental?

Hello,
I'm currently with BT (Together Option 1) but I hardly ever use my landline for making calls.
I'm currently being charged £45 a month (direct debit) - the reason it's so high is because I had to pay a connection charge. I only make a few calls each month so I must be in credit. However I really object to having to pay £45 a month for something I hardly ever use!
I've been with BT for over a year now so can switch. I know I could contact them to change my DD to the £10.50 a month line rental, but even at that, is there a cheaper option for line rental, considering I hardly ever use the phone?
I really only need a landline for connecting to the internet. Unfortunately we don't have cable in our area, as the combined phone and internet packages would save me a fortune!
Any advice?
Thanks in advance!

You might wish to investigate BT's Low User Scheme. See the link below. You cannot be on the Low User Scheme if you have a mobile phone or if you use the line to access the internet or you have broadband. However, I know of people who have not told BT that they have a mobile phone and they use their lines for internet access via 0800/0808 numbers and they seem to be fine on the Low User Scheme.
However, if you do go onto the Low User scheme you will not be able to route you calls via other carriers at will. But you may be able to route via other carriers if they offer access to their services via 0800/0808.
If you decide to move away from BT altogether you should be aware that you may not be allowed to least cost route your calls. Only BT has to let its customers route their calls through other service providers should they wish to. Except, that is, for BT customers on the Low User Scheme.

I would find out if your DD payments have finished covering your connection charge and get your payment down to the normal Option 1 rate first. You will then be saving money while you look around.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

Thanks guys,
I will look into their Light User Scheme, but as I use the line for internet (via Tesco.net) I may not be eligible (funny how BT seem to keep this scheme a secret!).
I'm also going to arrange to get my monthly dd reduced, so I should at least save £30 a month!0 -
If the Tesco internet is dial up va an 0800/0808 number, then I wouldn't actually mention that to BT.0
