So you don't want us to comment on this thread but ignore it?
By all means comment, but there isn't much to comment on. I've made some changes to the "Format for MSE" window that the calculator pops up, but it isn't live yet. The output when pasted into a discussion thread shouldn't look any different (hence saying there is nothing to comment on). I sent fermi and georgeuk links to the test version. If anyone wants to take a look at the test version, send me a private message and I'll send the link. Additional feedback is always useful.

Seems to work well putting some semi-random data in. :)

Thanks. Do you like the link directly into the board? Does that make it easier or complicate it?

I imagine it could be useful for some. Occasionally a newbie can't see immediately how to start a thread or find the newthread.gif button on the board.;)

It doesn't overcomplicate it for me from my perspective, but perhaps it could be a button rather than a direct hyperlink? Following a link that starts a new thread on what is effectively a separate site isn't as intuitive as clicking a button might be for that sort of thing? Just a thought.

Yes, I had thought of making it a button beside the "Highlight Text" button, but I had some feedback from one of the Motley Fool users who thought the hyperlink in the text was better. I might change it to a button??

Do you think the direct link into a new post on MSE is helpful or do you think it is better without?

I don't think everyone wants to start a new thread when they post an soa. They often only think of doing an soa after they've started their first thread... and others suggest it - just a thought.

Thanks. This is getting complicated because folk haven't seen the new version of the calculator. What the new version (in testing) aims to do is to make it easier for people to copy and paste their SOA into MSE. From time to time people miss key formatting tags off when they copy and paste into MSE. What the new version does is to automatically select all the correct text from the SOA.

In addition I have added a direct link to allow people to post straight into a new thread on MSE. This is entirely optional. So the idea is that people can paste into any post they want (e.g. a reply on an existing thread) but if they want to start a new thread they can do it directly from the calculator.

So perhaps the best thing is for me to post a link to the testing version. Please don't bookmark this version - this is just for testing. But I would be delighted to have any feedback and comments on it. You can find it here http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalcV4.html

Hard for me to say really.

I'm obviously well versed with this forum and forums in general, so for me it would be an unnecessary embellishment. For someone who is just starting and doesn't know how to post a new thread it might be useful.

Starting a thread isn't the default option. The focus is still mainly only copying/pasting the SOA into any post.

The dialogue you get is like the one below:
