Private Hiring

I have just been told that there are no suitable 4 bed quarters available and that I am going to be given a private hiring. Somebody at DHE is going to source two properties for me to view.
Does anybody know how I stand if I don't find them suitable and refuse them? Am I entitled to source my own property for the same rent? If so how do they calculate the amount I can spend on rent?
Thanks

i always thought you was given a price limit such as 800ppcm and you can source the propertyIf you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0 -
Looked into it a bit more. If you source your own place it must fulfill certain criteria (minimum room sizes and facilities etc) before it is brought onto the scheme. You have to pay the deposit yourself and DHE will not help you to get it back if you have problems.May have to move if the landlord decides to end the tenancy. Ok for disturbance but could do without the hassle.
Hope the two they offer are OK.0 -
If you do a search for JSP 464 on google, you can download this manual, it has 4 parts to it and has everything you need to know about housing. If I remember rightly, you can refuse the offered houses to wait for an SFA but I'm not sure what happens if you want a different private house. I know they can be brought onto the agency's books but this will obviously be a longer timescale. Hope this helps.0
