The difference between modem!!

Options
Just bought a Dell Dimension 5150 for £620+. Code 100-D0512. I added the speakers and sound card. She gave me the 3 yrs warranty for £30.It says Dell v92 Data/Fax modem and when I check in the daily mail it syas 56k modem with tiscali, is there any difference between the modem. Being a newbie, I am not sure whether I have got the right specifications.I had to order on the phone as my computer is playing up and I have still not received an order of confirmation. I guess, she did not get my e-mail address right. Also, does anybody know whether I can re-install my existing anti virus software and re-installed in on my new computer. It has still got 11 months to go.

Since I ordered on the phone, I am a bit concerned as I have not received anything as most probably it has been sent to the wrong e-mail address. Will it be better for me to give it a couple of days and then chase them. I believe Dell will phone with the delivery date. It seems a good deal for that price and I had to ask for discount. Thanks

No difference with the modem, just a different way of putting it.

All new dial up modems are 56k, and all dell modems are the same.

If you install your current antivirus software on the new machine you will probably get a full years subscription out of it, if installed from an original cd.

As long as you gave them all the relevant details, I'm sure they will get back to you so leave it a couple of days.

V92 modem is the same as 56k for all intents and purposes.

I had this problem with Dell (no order confirmation) when I ordered an Inspiron 6000 laptop via telephone. I only managed to find out what they had sent me when it was despatched and an electronic packing slip became available on the Dell website. Then I found they'd shipped me a CDRW drive whilst charging me for a DVD writer. Its been a total nightmare and Dell are useless. I've been promised my money back now and the laptop is on its way back to them, I hope you have better luck but at the end of the day, thats all it is, luck.

I think, I better give them a ring to confirm she has got my specifications right. Please what number did you use to ring them after you received your order? Thanks

Did they give you an order or confirmation number over the phone?

v92 is a standard which gives up to 56Kb download and 48Kb upload. As opposed to the older v90 which gives up to 56Kb download and 33.6Kb upload.
