Does anyone know the best place to get a cheap tyre for a nissan micra, the front left one has a got a crack on it and needs replaced not sur what the other tyres are like as it is my mums car, she will probably go to a garage or national tyres.
She is worried about getting ripped off as she is a female driver and doesn't know much about cars.
Any help?
Kyle

Try https://www.etyres.co.uk price includes fitting at an address of your choice and the valve. Even if you don't use them you can check the prices of what they charge against what your local place is charging.0

Have alook in this post http://www.gumtree.com/cgi-bin/activate_posting.pl?posting_id=3670745&ziz=64751946707
& even on these small tyres, it's worth fone calls to a few tyre dealers - get a price INCLUDING tyre, valve, balance & old tyre disposal. It'll no doubt need tracking/wheel allignment check & adjust. Around £20 & worth doing.
Is the spare poor - think about buying a pair & keeping the worst of the other 3 as a 'new' spare. Also, do think about the new tyre, or tyres,
being fitted to the rear, for better braking & stability - they shouldn't make a charge for this, if you smile nicely!!

Look on the tyre and get the spec if one tyre is difficult to read, read another one.

The picture there tells you what you are looking for, ignore the letter on the end.
You can check on that site but I only gave it so you know how to read your tyre size.
Phone around quite a few dealers for their price to include fitting, valve, balancing, tyre disposal and VAT
Ask them the make of the tyre they are quoting you and write it all down.
Ask for the cheapest "budget" that they have in your size (this is a new tyre)
Also depending on how you feel about them, ask them if they do "remoulds" (these are old tyres, which have been re-manufactured) Remoulds despite people disliking them are perfectly safe and cheap, they are "type approved" which means they have to pass the same safety standards as new tyres. And I use them all the time and have done so for 10 years.
Personally I wouldn't bother with the online services because You don't save much if anything on a budget brand and it is a longer process and if something goes wrong I'd rather be dealing with a man in the street.
Look in the local press for gargages offering tyre services and phone them too. On my last tyre price survey, I found the cheapest price from a local garage who had placed his ad in the paper, I would not have phoned him from the yellow pages, because he was a garage more than a tyre dealer, so I would not have found him otherwise.
You might get them trying to quote you a good deal on another tyre, something like "I have some firestones, top quality, normally 75 pounds I'm doing them for 50 pounds." Just ignore these comments and stick to
cheapest budget.......?
cheapest remould.....?
And then before fitting get them to double check the price to include fitting, valves, balancing, tyre disposal and VAT.
I disagree with Vansboy, You can at a lot of these places have a free wheel alignment and tracking check, by all means have the check done if you want, but don't feel pressured to get the work done. If your car does not pull to the left or the right when you drive it in a straight line and lightly let go of the steering wheel then it's fine. Some slight veering left or right is nothing to worry about.
Also if the tyre has worn evenly and all your other tyres are wearing evenly, again it's fine.
I only get tracking/allignment adjusted if there is too much veering left/right or if there is significant uneven treadwear (which is not caused by under or over inflation).

As a follow up to what Wig said, regarding tracking - I know what he means - you can bet that it WILL need adjusting, 'cos it's so easy to clip a kerb, or with all the traffic harming, speed bumps, you're bound to knock it out of true.
But, as you mentioned the tyre is split, this indicates, possible hard
(ish) side impact & if it's recent, you might not have had enough time for tread to wear unevenly, but it could be well out.
It'd be waste to not take advantage, while you are in the tyre place.
& as Tomstickland mentions, Micheldever - they do have a verrrrrrrrrrrrrry good reputation.

It clicked for me years ago when Krap Fit quoted me £120 for 2 budget tyres and my first trip to Protyre saw me with some Goodyears fitted for £80 all inclusive.Happy chappy0
