Tesco "isave" 50% off advert

Driving along today I saw a Tesco advertising billboard on a bus stop with a photo of one of the new ipod nanos and an ipod dock. The advert had a big red circle in the top right hand corner saying 50% off. Being on the lookout for an ipod nano for DD1 for Christmas I turned round, parked up and went to read the advert. It said "was £149.99, then £99.97 now £74.97" - there was no mention of terms and conditions - just said available in selected stores only and from Tesco.com. I rang my local Tesco extra and the CS assistant told me that the 50% off was on the ipod dock only - NOT on the nano - he also said that they had had loads of phone calls from people who were similarly "confused" by the advert. I am not "confused" - I saw a poster of an ipod nano in an ipod dock which said 50% off - with NO mention of what part of the picture was reduced. I think it is really misleading. Has anyone else seen this advert?

Ahh, my brother spotted that advert as well. Thanks for letting us know it was for the dock because after checking the website I was so confused. Sigh, how irritating though. I bet they designed the advert like that on purpose to draw you into the store!

i thought exactly the same thing!

I might even take a pic and send it to trading standards as misleading, and they should honour the advert.:mad:

I am definitely going to ring trading standards about it on Monday because it is definitely misleading and I have checked AGAIN and the advert definitely does not specify that it is just for the dock. I might even give Tesco direct a ring.

I haven't seen the advert but am just wondering are they saying the price is now £74.97 for dock alone?? £149 sounds about right for the original price of the ipod but not for the dock, or am I missing something?:o

it's a dock with a 7" lcd screen to show videos / display photos

I saw the advert and although didnt look into it i also thought it was for the nano. very misleading

You shouldnt assume it comes with an ipod or the price is for an ipod, i dont see anything wrong

I just watched this ad on Sky + and rewound and paused it to get a good look. It clearly says it is for the technika dock with screen and speakers - no mention whatsoever about Ipod.
I imagine that the bill board advert may just have the picture and price though, assuming you have seen the TV ad (as so many seem to do these days) and no more explanation. This is clearly misleading, as you can't be expected to have seen the Tv ad, never mind put the two together.
I would take a photo and contact tesco with it with the view that if they do not honour it then you will take it up with trading standards.
Surely worth a shot?

I thought they had to say something along the lines of 'ipod not included'.

Not sure if this is to save confusion or to comply with advertising regulations.
