My lap top wont switch on
When I press the on button the green light comes on for 5 secs then goes off and nothing happens
When I plug in the mains lead the battery flashes green once then goes off
I have reinserted the battery to no avail
What could be the problem
Could the battery be dead? Would it stop working so suddenly if it was the battery?
Any ideas

Disconnect the battery and power, leave it 30 seconds, then plug only the mains in and try again.0

What make/model is the laptop?0 -
dell inspiron6400Nice to save.0

On that model the symptoms point to a faulty motherboard.
There's an outside chance it's a faulty memory stick, you can try swapping them over / reseating them, but the flash of the battery charging light suggests it is the board.0 -
Could be the power unit or a loose power connector in the laptop, anything suspect there?0

If it is the mother board does that mean not worth fixing??
Power adapter appears ok.....what do you mean by a loose power connector??
What is the memory stick?? and how do I swap it over??Nice to save.0 -
Some times the internal connector (where the power plug goes) gives up and is either loose or traces of over heating/melting. Freecycle it and get a new one. Yep, the motherboard is expensive and then a full strip and rebuild.0
