why won't .wps atatchments open?

hi there.
think there may be an issue with .xls atatchments also, when i send them the recipient cannot open the files. am using works 7, xp home & hotmail.
also, can i convert the files to another format, such as pdf? how do i do this? when i launch my adobe v6 there i cant find an option to open a new file, (was just going to try and copy/paste?) don't know if this is even remotely possible.
thanks in advance.

    Hey.

Blimey, I didn't think anyone used Works 7, never mind Works full stop! It's possible (Actually quite likely, though I've not tested) that .wps is an old and dead file format and not readable by the later and more commonly used Microsoft Office. As for .xls though, its still used and should be viewable. If you could provide error codes and messages that would help.

As for creating PDFs, there's no simple was to do it in Windows without shoddy software or paying. However you could give http://createpdf.adobe.com/ a bash and see if that fullfils your needs.

    All the best.

OpenOffice 3 may open it and allow you to save it in a different format but beware there may be some formatting and layout issues.

I wouldn't say its useless as such, just out of date. We're now on Works 9 and Office 2008.

You can grab a copy of Works 9 relatively cheaply, but having never used it, and most companies and users now using Microsoft Office, I would not recommend it. Saying that, Office for home is getting close to £100, not cheap! You could try free alternatives such as OpenOffice which gives you 98% of the features Office provides, but is free. Being a different piece of software though you'd have to get used to the changes and ensure you save in the correct format (It offers all the Microsoft formats plus others).

If you open the document in your version of Works and then select "Save As", there should be a drop down box giving you the option to save the document in another format. If you save it as a ".doc" then your friend should be able to open it. Apologies if this doesn't work - I don't have Works installed on my current computer so I'm suggesting this from memory.

If you are, or a child of yours is, in full time education, check out www.software4students.co.uk where you can pick MS Office 2007 for about £35.

You mean Office 2007....(unless you mean an Apple Mac).

And of course www.theultimatesteal.co.uk for the office 2007 ultimate edition for £38 if you have a .ac.uk email address and are a student.
