Fruit and Butter question

Hi,
We usually buy our fruit at Tesco (along with everything else),but i find the quality and taste very dissapointing. Is the produce from Lidl or Aldi any better? as i have both stores in the area if it is any better.
I also have a silly butter question.
We use "Anchor spreadable",but are thinking of changing to "normal" butter, but how do you store it? Surely,if it is stored in the fridge,it is too hard to spread on things, but if you leave it out,it will go off ??? i did say it was silly.
Thanks in advance.

I tend to find the taste of my fruit and veg from any supermarket to be a bit tasteless, unless i buy the organic variety, which is slightly better, but more expensive, so we only get it when its on special at the moment.
With our butter i keep it in the kitchen bread bin in the winter, and find i have no problems, but in the summer i keep it in the fridge as it will go off in warm weather.0 -
I leave my butter out too and it's fine. My Mum has never kept butter in the fridge, it lives in a butter dish on the worktop and she's never suffered any ill effects.Just run, run and keep on running!0

I keep mine in a butter dish on the worktop and microwave it if it's too hard to spread. Never had any problem except for liquidizing itSilence is more musical than any song0

And how long does a pat of butter last in your house? I tend to keep mine in the fridge, with the intention of getting it out an hour or so before I need it but then I forget.
There are only 2 of us in the house, so a packet of butter will last for a couple of weeks. Would it go off after a couple of weeks of being left out?0 -
I leave my butter out all the time as well, its absolutely fine-never a problem.0

It lasts a good two weeks here too. I do pop it in the fridge every so often but leave it out most of the time
It's a wonder I've not died of some 'orrible disease
It's not cold in my kitchen but it remains a pretty static temperature...coolish to warmish but never hot. I buy organic butter and it's usually still fairly firm in the packet but spreadable on hot things and melts and cuts easily.Just run, run and keep on running!0 -
Thanks all.
So i would be fine to leave it out all day, then pop it back in the fridge at night.
Any more thoughts on the fruit though? we were going to try a farm shop, but the nearest one is about 10 miles away.Sponsored by Tesco Clubcard Points !!0 -
Hi,
I leave my butter out and microwave it too if its a bit too hard to spread and Ive lived to tell the tale so far. I would add though, I think its best in a glass butter dish or a crock one, my mum broke her glass one and used a plastic tub and she said it began to taste rancid.
I shop at Aldi, I dont know if it varies from store to store, but I find their fruit and veg absolutely excellent, much better than Sainsburys imo. It is all prepacked and wrapped though you cant buy it loose.0 -
With just the two if us I cut the butter into quarters and put a quarter in the dish which is left out.
Supermarket fruit and veg is all pretty tasteless unless you buy locally grown and in season. If you do eat a lot of fruit then its worth making the trip to a farm shop or local farmers market0 -
