I'm certain it would be fine to put the money in by cheque. I have a First Direct account which requires £1000 to be paid in each month and I do not have a regular salary. The money goes in from various savings accounts, cheques, cash, bank transfers etc and I have never had a problem. I intend to use my new Alliance & Leicester account in the same way.

Rpoints do appear to have suspended their offer at the moment. Hopefully this should not affect claims for accounts already opened, but we shall see.
  • It says on the A & L Site Applicants must credit the current account with a minimum of £500 per month or fees may be applied. Credit transfers to the account from other Alliance & Leicester accounts will not count towards the minimum monthly credit.looks like if you credit it from any other account (using any method) other than a A&L account you will be ok. Says a min of 500 pouns used to be 1K, so you may not have to put as much in. When I opened my account with them they took about 2 months to credit the 50 pounds, so you may have to pay in for about 3 months or you may get charged fees. I'd give them a quick bell to check this out.

I am new to the site too. I have just got my £50 from alliance and Leicester and the person who recommended me has got their's also. I am about to recommend my wife. Does anyone know if thatwill be allowed ? Presumably, if she applies through rpoints there is money in it?

Incidentally the A and L account is good for interest payment and ease of use. However never think that direct debit changes etc will sail through without a problem. I had to change four myself. They seem to have problems changing Woolwich, LA Council tax and Vodaphone for example. Now I have my £50 I will be complaining about that

    Thanks for any advice

Yes you are allowed to recommend your wife.

Better to go through Quidco than Rpoints as mentioned above they are offering £50.

If you apply for an A&L Direct ISA savings account (5.2%) they give you 50 quid if you then go on to switch your current account-but you have to do it within 24hrs of applying for the ISA.
N.B you don't actually have to put any money in th ISA, just apply for it.
