It might seem a dumb question but..............

Options
Many times I wish there was a section called
"It might seem a dumb question but".
Because I believe there are dozens of us who would very much like to ask questions like thus:-

I have a few hundred photographs on my computer and would like to be able to "lift" some of then onto a disc so that they can be shown on our TV. In a recent issue of Web User, there were instructions on how to do just that, using Picasa, a suite I have. I have bought a pack of CD-R discs which I hope to use. No doubt I will make a muck-up to start with, but if I don't, and I lift of those images I want, will I then be able to show them via our DVD player ?. If the answer to this is "yes", then what were the discs with a DVD label for?.

Now, if the discs I bought ARE correct, and assuming I begin transferring the pics, if I stop for whatever reason and then resume the next day, will the pics I then add, carry on from where I left off?, or will they print on top?.

Dumb? I said it was dumb, but I'm prepared to bet someone somewhere will be saying "I was dying to ask that".

Pictures stored on your PC are jpeg files, you will be able to play these on your DVD player only if it can recognise these. Most modern DVD players will, check the handbook for references to Jpeg or Kodak picture disk.
CD-R discs can only be written to once in one burning session, but since they are only about 10p each if you mess up you havn't lost much.

If you want to add more pictures to a disk then you need CD-RW disks these can be written to many times.

DVD disks offer more storage capacity about 4.7 Gb for a single layer disk compared to 700Mb for a CD.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

If you have a DVD writer and Nero on your machine (the DVD version), you can make a DVD slide show of your digital photos (with music, if you wish) which can be played on any DVD player and TV. There's a wizard which takes you through the process, so it's very easy to use.

It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.

  • The chances of your having an Apple Mac rather than a Windows PC are slim but you never know... if you have, then use iMovie or iPhoto to create a slide show (with music, fancy transitions etc) and then create a fully-"menued" DVD with iDVD.

It's a wonderful, virus-free world in Mac land and recommend it to everyone (and, no, I don't work for Apple).
