Time for a coffee break?
Let's hope the 'workers' are having a better day than this fellaAlice Springs but not as high as me0 -
Someone, was it Mel, was asking whether inflation really was zero or negative at the moment as a lot of figures are being bandied about.
A good question, so I thought I would have a quick look to see as the official inflation figures are just out. Unfortunately the headline figures are usually of little use as they quote the increase in prices over the last 12 months. Need to look at the monthly index figures really which reflects what a basket of "items" would cost in any month.
The RPI index (the one used to uprate Government pensions etc) is lower than the index for Feb 08.
The RPIX index (which allows for the distortion of mortgage interest payments in RPI so probably more relevant for someone who is mortgage free) is lower than the index for June 08.
The CPI index (used for the bank of England monetary targets) is lower than the index for May 08.
So my conclusion is that things are cheaper than Feb 08, June 08 or May 08 depending on what index is most relevant.
Obviously if 60% of your expenditure is say on Black Sheep ale for example then no doubt you can argue all indices are irrelevant.
It is a bit foolish to draw conclusions from such a short time period and such a selective analysis but it does give some comfort that real savings rates (after taking into account inflation) are actually not too bad even if absolute savings rates are low.
Sorry please ignore this post and return to the normal silliness.MSE. Abandon hope all ye who enter here0 -

What or where is Oxford prison. I miss her.
Bit harsh 3 months for TV licence evasion.
Googled .............. Hotel, coverted from the prison, no TV allowed (not too much of a problem there then), porridge for breakfast, lunch and evening meal. Can't even get a little fruity in case the staff check your moves through the peep hole.In memory of Chris Hyde #8670
