What happens to overdraft when switching bank accounts?

Hi, I'm quite keen for my husband to switch his bank account as his is rubbish, but I'm sure what his current bank will do with his overdraft?
If he keeps that account open will it just sit there or will they demand payments?
Thanks

They will figure out that he isn't making a regular income into his account and ask for the full amount back.
If I were you I would keep the current account until he has paid off the overdraft, then close the account and open a new one elsewhere.
(Its better than leaving it and then being asked for the full amount at one time)0 -
That's what I was afraid of. Nevermind.
Thanks for your help.0 -
A new bank may be happy to match his existing overdraft. Ask at banks you are interested in switching to and see. Then, he can effectively pay off the existing overdraft from the new account, and close the old account.0
